The JOCK Series Book Two
What is a sexy soccer stud supposed to do when “following family tradition” falls 180 degrees opposite his closeted ideal?
From birth, Chris Jackson has been schooled on how to land a cheerleader. After all, his father married one, and his father’s father before him. Heck, even his older brother married a stereotypical cheerleader the summer before Chris went off to college. For two years, Chris dodges invasive questions about relationships by blaming his lack of female companionship on grueling practices and heavy course loads. But his lack of interest in girls should’ve given his family a clue. It isn’t until Chris mentions meeting a boy that his father’s synapses short-circuit.
Alonzo Martin is anything but a buxom blond. From his black hair, combat boots, and trench coat to his nail polish and guyliner, the mysterious introvert isn’t easily persuaded to date. Alonzo’s insecurities keep Chris at arm’s length, but Alonzo’s painful past might meet its match in the charismatic jock’s winning smile and sense of humor.
When opposites attract, only cheerleaders and gummy bears can help overcome fear and family tradition.

I read the first JOCK series book earlier this year and loved it, so when I saw the second book was out, I bought it without hesitation. As with My Roommate's a Jock (book 1), Wade Kelly continues giving us a wonderful, character-driven story. We even get to visit with Ellis and Cole (in all his funny science t-shirted glory) in a supportive role.I won't re-hash the blurb, which is spot-on, or give away spoilers, but I will say that I think this book is more about healing and self-discovery or even self-recovery, as opposed to a coming-of-age story. Chris and Alonzo are diametric opposites and yet so perfect for each other. As another reviewer mentioned, this is not an insta-love story. Yes, there is attraction but Chris and Alonzo have to work for it, but the progression is natural and these guys have great chemistry. Chris' joie de vivre and confidence helps coax out Alonzo's true self, with a little help from some gummy bears.
Kelly's writing continues to be clean and as error-free as you can get in today's publishing. The characters are solid and well-defined; no cardboard cutout people here. I will warn that, as mentioned in the book blurb, Chris's father has a weird cheerleader hang-up. While I find it strange—and towards the end a bit creepy and irritating—you kind of have to take it with a grain of salt...or a handful of gummy bears. I challenge you to read this book and NOT be dying for a bag by the end!
Highly recommend. You can read it as a stand-alone, but if you haven't read Ellis and Cole's story, you should check it out. When/if book three comes out, it'll be another instant buy.

No! Jocks Don't Date Guys The JOCK Series Book 2 edition by Wade Kelly Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The story line was enjoyable and the character development supported the story. There were moments that the dialog felt a bit young for the characters' ages, but I still enjoyed the story.
I was blown away with the story in this one. The plot is great, I feel in love with the characters. Now while the jealousy can be a bit much it makes sense for someone who has never put himself out there before.
Wade Kelly is a gifted author. I've enjoyed all his books that I have read. This is no exception. It's a really good book about two guys who are struggling with their own issues and how they work out the issues and end up in a great relationship.
Absolutely loved this story. Was pulled in from the get go with Lonnie's back story. Chris was a solid character and loved how it all came together in the end. I'll be on pins and needles until book 3 comes out. I hope it involves Doug and maybe the new soccer player on the team. We shall see!
I had hopes when I began book 2 but they faded quickly. Not only unbelievable this story descended into the totally ridiculous. 23 year old college coaches; father's fixated on cheerleaders and an unbelievable cast of characters ruined any chance this story hah. Shame on Ms. Kelly.
I loved this book. It was hard to put down. The pain and suffering I felt as I went thru some of the things Alonzo did. The story was well written and I went thru all the emotions the whole way. I couldn't put it down. I dream about it every night now.
If you are a gay guy, this will hit your heart in a great way. The story of both boys will touch your heart. The sex stuff was well crafted and very provoking in such a great way!
YOU WILL LOVE this book!!!
There were things I liked about this book, but probably just as many that I didn't like. First of all, Chris's dad's obsession with cheerleaders bordered upon psychotic. Chris' s mom might ought to check their basement to see if he has one being held prisoner. That man needed a good therapist.
Second, Alonzo's sister moved to his college supposedly to watch over him but she didn't seem at all worrried when Alonzo had flashbacks and needed help. She told Chris to not worry and wouldn't let him run after him. That was nuts. Then after this they called Alonzo's former therapist who immediately gets on a plane and flies half way across the country to help. She then stays there for days. Does she not have any other patients? Unless you can afford a personal physician, I don't see that happening. Then Alonzo was immediately better and had a complete personality change from how he was at the beginning and of the book.
I didn't really like Chris. He was nice to Alonzo but not so much to everyone else. Chris' s jealousy was annoying. He was jealous of two friends who were in a committed relationship. It didn't make sense. And what was with him making his sister-in-law cry? There was no need in that.
I was happy to see Ellis and Cole in this book but that didn't make sense either. Ellis is twenty three and already teaching at a college level? Maybe, but not likely. Also, Ellis invites Chris and Alonzo over and tells Chris that Cole loves to entertain and wants to make new friends. In the last book, Cole could barely stand people. You can't help but feel for Alonzo though and despite his other character flaws, Chris does love Alonzo. That makes it worth reading but maybe not worth the price.
